For a long time, our study has been a dumping zone for all of the detritus that you just don’t wants to get rid of, but you don’t really have anywhere for it, and all of the important paperwork was always getting lost and misplaced – not an ideal situation.
I really felt that I had to get to grips with this and turn our study into a room that was not only functional, but beautiful too and somewhere that we would want to go to get the dreaded paperwork done (no more procrastinating for us!!)
The most imp0rtant pieces that we need were obviously a desk and somewhere to pop away completed paperwork with heaps of storage too. Luckily, I found a pair of timber filing cabinets that were in great condition (they only needed a freshen up and new runners), then I found the most beautiful (to me) desk. The desk that I found is a reproduction piece that has heaps of little secret drawers and hidey holes – perfect, so I dragged that home too!

To make the filing cabinets match my vision, I first covered the drawer fronts in paintable wallpaper for a but of interest and texture, then I refinished them in Artisan Parchment. added new handles (and drawer runners too) and they were ready to go

Of course, our new desk was a bit grotty and shabby as it had been hidden away I a garage for over ten years – but the potential.
So that this suited our style, we did a couple of modifications to it, and I then refinished it in possibly my favourite white Artisan Parchment, which is a beautiful soft white , then all it needed was new handles.

The last things that I added were an old bookcase that I had had hanging around for about 20 years, so yes, it too was refinished in Artisan Parchment and now can hold favourite book and bits n pieces

Then of course, I needed somewhere to sit quietly and read those books ( or even to recover after dealing with then paperwork and bill paying) so I moved my beautiful wingback chair and ottoman in also

All in all the study turned out just as I envisaged and is a but of an oasis now (and yes, all of our paperwork is currently up to date) and just goes to show that even though pieces may be all different to start, they can become cohesive and beautiful with a change of colour.
